UTNT (UT New Theatre) presents newly developed works from playwrights of Texas Theatre and Dance and Michener Center for Writers. Now in its 14th season, this showcase exists as an incubator for new work, with many continuing on to be professionally produced across the country.

The heartbreaking story of a border town, a bus route and the women of Ciudad Juárez who are disappearing. Inspired by real testimonies from women affected by the ongoing femicides along the border, Isaac Gómez’s La Ruta weaves together beautiful storytelling and music in a celebration of the resilience of Mexican women in the wake of tremendous loss.

(Re)current Unrest is an evening-length immersive performance installation ‘ritual’ built on the sonic foundation of Steve Reich’s three earliest works: It’s Gonna Rain (parts 1 and 2), Come Out and Pendulum. (Re)current Unrest utilizes movement, media and powerful imagery to meditate on the “American Dream” and Black nihilism, borne of the current racially charged moment.

Evolution is a collaborative design laboratory facilitating cutting-edge interdisciplinary experimentation in dance performance. Choreographers from the Department of Theatre and Dance join with concert and event lighting designers and composers from the School of Design and Creative Technologies to push the physical and virtual boundaries of the definition of contemporary performance in a public showcase presented in the B. Iden Payne Theatre each spring.

UT Live Design Showcase 2020 presents work created for theatre, dance and other performance mediums by the M.F.A. candidates in the UT Live Design program at The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance. Areas of work include costume design and technology, lighting design, integrated media design and scenic design. Collectively, this work helps tell visual stories for live performance and reflects the collaborative nature of the theatrical process.

Award-winning dance company, Dance Repertory Theatre, returns to the stage in (R)evolution. An exploration of transition and transformation through contemporary dance, (R)evolution features powerful choreography from internationally-renowned guest and faculty choreographers and students of the M.F.A. in Dance program, as well as the annual Haruka Weiser Memorial Commission.

When their father suddenly passes away leaving his estate to his son, sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood find themselves financially destitute and their reputations tarnished. The personifications of good sense and emotional sensibility, the Dashwood sisters must now navigate their new lives and romantic entanglements under the judgmental eyes of 19th-century English society in order to regain their social standing and find true love.

When it rains in Austin, Texas, the best place to stay dry through the night is behind the theater. Weather and circumstance bring together Mikey, Snake, Miss Candace, Motor, Mac and Julie - all of whom are on the street for different reasons, here now to navigate their relationships, dreams and often, survival.
