Lincoln Center Theater Presents Daphne by Renae Simone Jarrett

Lincoln Center Theater will present Daphne, a new, surreal play by Renae Simone Jarrett (M.F.A. 2021), beginning October 2023. Her play delves into the mind-bending realizations of her main character Daphne following her move out of the city with her girlfriend.

The Department of Theatre and Dance Welcomes Incoming Faculty

The Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to celebrate a number of incoming tenured and tenure-track faculty this academic year. Among them is newly-appointed chair Dr. Peter Carpenter (Z.T. Scott Family Chair in Drama), who joins the department from his previous position as director of the School of Theatre and Dance at the University of Florida. Also joining the department this fall are Performance as Public Practice faculty members Enzo E. Vasquez Toral and Rosemary Candelario, who represent the continued growth, development and expansion of their area.

Before the start of the fall semester, the Association for Theatre in Higher Education’s (ATHE) Annual Conference took place in Austin, Texas. UT Department of Theatre and Dance affiliates attended, presented and orchestrated this year’s conference, sharing their theatrical knowledge and networking with fellow theatre practitioners.

Kimber Lee's untitled f*ck m*ss s**gon play on Stage at Young Vic

After a production at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, untitled f*ck m*ss s**gon play by Kimber Lee (M.F.A. 2011) will be on stage at Young Vic Theatre in London, England. Lee's acclaimed play will run from mid-September to November 4, 2023.

kt shorb and siri gurudev Awarded Arts Research with Communities of Color Fellowships

Alumni kt shorb (Ph.D. 2021) and siri gurudev (Ph.D. 2023) have been selected as Arts Research with Communities of Color Fellows by the Social Science Research Council. As members of this year's cohort, shorb will work with Theater Mu and gurudev will work with Esperanza Peace & Justice Center, conducting research geared towards making the arts a more equitable field.

The short film was chosen to screen at Los Angeles Dance Film Festival's Dance Films on the Lawn at the California Heritage Museum in Santa Monica. Hinton can also be seen in the sci-fi film Blue Hour: The Disappearance of Nick Brandreth, now out on Amazon Prime.

Danny Tejera's (M.F.A., Playwriting, 2020) play, TOROS, had its world premiere at Second Stage Uptown in August

Work by EG Gionfriddo and Eliot Gray Fisher on Display in Colombia

After participating in City to City, a program through UNESCO's Creative Cities network, faculty member EG Gionfriddo and Ph.D. candidate Eliot Gray Fisher have seen their work presented around the world. Their work told-hold, which they created with artists from Germany and the United Kingdom, is currently on display at Centro Cultural Colombo Americano in Colombia.
