Sanchez, associate professor and head of the M.F.A. in Directing program, will partner with the Intiman Theatre to bring inclusive and diverse stories to the stage in the upcoming season.

We sat down with Nick Mayo, a Central Texas native and the director of The Drowsy Chaperone, to discuss his life, career and the process of bringing this five-time Tony Award-winning musical to life on the stage.

Throughout the fall semester, Texas Performing Arts scenic studio supervisor, J.E. Johnson and scenic artist, Karen Maness, along with a team of students, have been developing the raptors of Lucy Prebble's ENRON, coming to the stage this spring.

Dubbed the "high priest of hip hop," Rennie Harris is being recognized for his contributions to the field with a 2017 Dance Magazine Award. Harris begins his faculty appointment at the Department of Theatre and Dance in January 2018.

The Austin Chronicle celebrates Dance Repertory Theatre's Fall For Dance, which was on stage November 8-12, 2017, as a concert in which "work after work...emphatically spoke to current events, to the here and now" and one that "reflect[s] who we are in this time of social disruption." 

The Austin-American Statesman (Austin 360) is calling Texas Theatre and Dance's production of Arthur Miller's classic one that "brings out the show's strengths while eliding its flaws, creating a powerful venue for many of the department's students to highlight their great talents." 

Artistic directors Jeremy Arnold, Erica Gionfriddo and Dorothy O’Shea Overbey discuss Fall For Dance and their choreographic works which seek to define the term “artist-citizen” and address the larger issues facing our society today.

Arthur Miller's Tony Award-winning masterpiece, The Crucible, outlines the events of the Salem Witch Trials, which turned neighbor against neighbor in 17th century Massachusetts. Originally written as an allegory for 1950s McCarthyism and the House Committee on Un-American Activities, which accused thousands of Americans of being communists or communist sympathizers.
