Charles O. Anderson Receives Award from National Performance Network

Charles O. Anderson, head of dance, was recently recognized as one of the 2017/18 Creation and Development Fund recipients by the National Performance Network for his project (Re)current Unrest which explores African American cultural and historical experience through a multi-media dance piece.

A former actor in New York on Broadway and off-Broadway, Catherine Ann Jones (B.F.A., Drama, 1965) is currently performing her 12th play, Freud's Oracle, a one-woman play set in Vienna and London in 1933.

Poor Boys’ Chorus by Brian Kettler (M.F.A., Playwriting, 2015) is one of 20 plays selected from more than 200 submissions to be a part of Broadway Bound Theatre Festival’s inaugural season in New York City this August. Poor Boys’ Chorus was developed and produced while Kettler was pursuing his master’s degree at UT Austin.

The Department of Theatre and Dance productions, students, faculty, alumni and friends are well represented on this year's list of nominations. Texas Theatre and Dance's In the Red and Brown Water and Momentum were both recognized as part of this year's list.

Sofia Aranha (current student) and Jacqueline Heimel (M.F.A. 2017) recently received the university's Roy Crane Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts. Recognizing their work in the performing arts, the monetary award celebrates Aranha's choreography (Dil Se Re and Swadesh: One's Own Country) and Heimel's creation, "Randy the Rooster."
