Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig Awarded for “Lidless”

Marcia Gay Harden (B.A. '80) accepted the Tony for “Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play” Sunday night for her role as “Veronica” in Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage. The award marks a first career win for Harden. Her Broadway debut as “Harper” in Tony Kushner's, Angels in America, garnered two Tony Award nominations in 1993.

Actor, Producer and Academy Award–winning Director, Kevin Costner delighted an audience of students, faculty and staff Wednesday afternoon in the Oscar G. Brockett Theatre.

UT alumnus and veteran actor, Martin Patterson "Pat" Hingle, passed away on January 4, 2009 at his home in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. Hingle earned a B.F.A. in Drama from the University of Texas in 1949 and enjoyed a successful career in film, television and stage spanning over 50 years.

Charlotte Griffin Awarded for Outstanding Thesis

In performance one never knows where they may find inspiration. For B.F.A. in Dance candidates, Lisa Kobdish and Mariclaire Gamble, it all started with YouTube. "We were attracted to a video where middle aged men slapped high fives and then looked towards the camera,” Kobdish said. From that video, the students collaborated to create High Five Jive, an original dance work exploring the motifs of gesturing the high five.

Drama and Theatre for Youth Area Head, Dr. Coleman A. Jennings received the Distinguished Book Award from AATE at their annual conference in New York last month. Jennings was selected for his work as editor on “Nine Plays by JoséCruz González Magical Realism and Mature Themes in Theatre for Young Audiences”.
