UT alumnus and veteran actor, Martin Patterson "Pat" Hingle, passed away on January 4, 2009 at his home in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. Hingle earned a B.F.A. in Drama from the University of Texas in 1949 and enjoyed a successful career in film, television and stage spanning over 50 years. He is most noted for his recurring role as "Commissioner James Gordon" in the Batman movie franchise. The Pat Hingle Endowed Presidential Scholarship was established in his honor in 1993 and supports upper–division theatre students at UT Austin.
Former UT staff member, James "Jim" A. Pringle III, passed away on December 26, 2008 in Belton, Texas. Pringle joined the University of Texas Department of Theatre and Dance in 1961 as Assistant Technical Director and served as Guest Assistant Professor from 1962–1963 before being named production shop Property Master, a position he held until his retirement in 1986. He is remembered fondly by friends, colleagues and students for his dedication and loyalty to UT and the Department of Theatre and Dance.
