Marcia Gay Harden (B.A. '80) accepted the Tony for “Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play” Sunday night for her role as “Veronica” in Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage. The award marks a first career win for Harden. Her Broadway debut as “Harper” in Tony Kushner's, Angels in America, garnered two Tony Award nominations in 1993.
Born in La Jolla, California, Marcia Gay Harden earned a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Texas at Austin, and an M.F.A. in Theatre from New York University. She is most noted for her Academy Award-winning portrayal of Jackson Pollock's wife, Lee Krasner, in the 2000 film, Pollock.
Also recognized at the Sunday night ceremony veteran actor, Martin Patterson “Pat” Hingle (B.F.A. '49), whose photo appeared during an in memoriam tribute, and Kevin Adams (B.F.A. '84), who received two nominations for “Best Lighting Design of a Musical” for his work on Hair and Next to Normal.
