Angelica Monteiro is an interdisciplinary movement artist, storyteller and educator from the Brazilian Amazon. She has over fifteen years of experience teaching and creating across Brazil and the United States. Monteiro's choreography combines U.S. and Brazilian street dances, Amazonian traditional forms and Western contemporary movement. She studies embodied storytelling through geographical and anthropological movement patterns such as immigration, colonization and deforestation. Monteiro received her B.A. in Dance and Education from Universidade Federal do Pará, Brazil and her M.F.A. in Dance from The University of Texas at Austin, where she now teaches as a Lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Dance.

What is your favorite thing about Austin?

I love how pet-friendly Austin is. I love the outdoor life and, of course, the food!
