Alison Vasquez (she/her/ella) is a director, playwright, actress and theatre instructor from San Antonio, Texas. She completed her M.F.A. in Theatre at The Ohio State University. She received her bachelor’s degree in acting from the University of Northern Colorado. She is owner/operator of Claridad Voice, owner/operator of Representation Matters Training and the founding executive director of Teatro Audaz San Antonio. She is forever inspired by her husband, René, and her daughter, Paloma. Her chapter “Representation Matters: The why and how of decolonizing Stanislavski actor training” may be found in Stages of Reckoning: Antiracist and Decolonial Actor Training (Editor Amy Mihyang Ginther, Routledge). Selected projects that have brought her joy: Directing: Angel Street, Simply Simone (Little Theatre of the Rockies); La Pastorela, The Panza Monologues (Teatro Audaz); This Above All (San Antonio College); The Comedy of Errors, This Above All, Luchadora!, Zoot (Palo Alto College); Acting: La Flor de La Canela (The Wexner Center for the Arts; BAAD!Ass Women Festival, New York City); House of Flesh (Yoma Productions); Shipwrecked! The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (As Told By Himself) (Whistling in the Dark Theatre Company); Othello (Royal Shakespeare Company, SUFS). Vasquez loves to create from the question, "why not?"

What do you enjoy most about being a part of UT Theatre and Dance?

Walking into the classroom, studio and rehearsal room where everyone has the opportunity to find their voice in an authentic and dynamic way brings me joy. The curiosity and energy of the UT Theatre and Dance students is life giving!

What is your favorite thing about Austin?

The natural beauty nestled in pockets around the city, and the fantastic food!
