Annase Raji (she/her) is a Nigerian artist, scholar, educator and community advocate committed to leveraging theatre as a tool for social transformation. She holds a B.A. in Theatre and Film Arts and a M.A. in Media and Communication with a specialization in International and Intercultural Communication. She is currently pursuing a M.F.A in Theatre with a specialization in drama and theatre for youth and communities.
With extensive experience in youth engagement, teaching and community organizing, Raji has worked with young people across Nigeria and the United States. Her work includes training over 1000 youth in health education and malaria prevention in Nigeria, teaching public speaking to more than 100 university students, supervising over 600 youth volunteers in community service and supporting young people facing severe mental health challenges.
A published scholar and practitioner, Raji has presented her research and creative work at national and international conferences, including the American Alliance for Theatre and Education, the International Drama in Education Institute, Voice and Speech Trainers Association and the Graduate Communication Association Conference. Her research focuses on using drama workshops to empower immigrant communities.
