Playwriting Professor Debuts New Work at Florida Stage

Yankee Tavern by Professor Steven Dietz, originally commissioned by the McCarter Theatre, Princeton is a dark thriller about the allure and danger of conspiracy theories, set in a crumbling New York City tavern 5 years after 9/11.

It will be seen this summer at the Contemporary American Theatre Festival in Shepherdstown, West Virgina; and at numerous theatres next season including, Denver's Curious Theatre Company, New Jersey Repertory Company, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, The Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, and the Orlando Shakespeare Festival. Additionally, Yankee Tavern will be published in the fall by Dramatists Play Service.

Yankee Tavern is the third of Dietz's plays to have premiered in the 08-09 season. Shooting Star premiered at Austin's ZACH Theatre in February and will be seen next year at Trinity Rep in Providence, Rhode Island and City Theatre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Becky's New Car premiered at ACT in Seattle, Washington and will be seen next year at half a dozen regional theatres across the country including ZACH.
