Faculty, graduate students and alumni will play an integral role in this year's Planet Texas 2050 symposium, where they will present, perform and participate in roundtable discussions.
Planet Texas 2050's annual symposium gathers presenters from multiple universities and across disciplines to exchange ideas and dialogue around resilience and sustainability. This year's symposium will take place in the William C. Powers Student Activity Center on The University of Texas at Austin campus from February 24 to February 27, 2025.

The symposium will open on Monday, February 24 with a COFA Summit on Arts, Climate Change and Community Resilience. Faculty members Rosemary Candelario, Leah Cox, Roxanne Schroeder-Arce and Performance as Public Practice Ph.D. candidate Whitney Mosery will participation in "Collaborating for Climate change: A roundtable discussion between artists and scientists." Cox will participate in the "Environmental Storytelling Film Screening and Discussion" with Kelly Ashton Todd. Faculty member Kate Freer will present "Weaving our Worlds" and "Sustainability in artistic practice and presentation." She and Mosery will also present "Production and Prep: How the Arts Can Participate in Disaster Response." Additionally, there will be two performances presented: Candelario's aqueous, a site-adaptive performance at Waller Creek, and Schroeder-Arce's Papakō: The Journey in the William C. Powers Student Activity Center Black Box theatre, featuring costumes designed by faculty member Raquel Barreto.
On Wednesday, February 26, Performance as Public Practice Ph.D. candidate Khristián Méndez Aguirre will present "Going Where the Numbers Can’t: Arts & The Production of Knowledge in Resilience Research," and alum Michael Bruner (M.F.A. 2021) will present "Sensitizing to the More-than-Human with Sensitive Plants."
On Thursday, February 27, faculty member Katie Dawson and Lara Dossett will present "Creating and Researching Climate Resilience with Youth at a Secondary School."
