The Young! Tanzsommer summer dance festival is the experience of a lifetime for young dancers — an opportunity to perform in Austria at one of the most respected dance gatherings of its kind.
We’re trying to raise $15,000 by Feb. 1 in order to help 15 undergraduate student dancers in The University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Theatre and Dance attend this prestigious festival in 2012.

The University of Texas at Austin, Dance Repertory Theatre is the performing ensemble for dance majors pursuing a B.F.A. in Dance. Students in the B.A. in Theatre and Dance with a dance emphasis also participate. The role of DRT in the Department of Theatre and Dance is to encourage collaborations between dance artists, choreographers, directors and musicians toward the goal of bringing dance closer to the everyday public. The educational experience may include performance improvisation, audience interaction and choreographed works inspired by creative exploration, architecture as space and personal environment as quality of movement
The Young! Tanzsommer summer dance festival is the experience of a lifetime that allows young dancers to perform in Austria at one of the most respected dance gatherings of its kind. For the fifth time since 2004, The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance has been invited. Students participating in Tanzsommer give six performances over two weeks at some of Europe’s largest venues. One of these shows is a special performance at the Elizabethinum, a support center for children with disabilities. This performance — which is also a fundraiser for the center — has a profound effect on the children, who become physically more at ease as they experience the joy of dance through our students. In participating in programs like the Tanzsommer International Festival dancer’s education spans a cultural divide as they gain valuable professional experience, they expose the world to UT Austin’s incredible level of talent, and touch other peoples’ lives through dance.
