The Austin Opera (formerly the Austin Lyric Opera) opens its production of Giuseppe Verdi's A Masked Ball on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Long Center in collaboration with The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance.
The Department of Theatre and Dance has brought in acclaimed projection designer Wendall K. Harrington, who will be working with our students on every aspect of the design process. As part of this collaboration, the department will also be providing high-tech projection equipment to create stunning visual designs. This is a unique opportunity for students to work with cutting edge technology, as well as world-class designers and opera performers.
"This production of Un Ballo en Maschera marks the beginning of a wonderful partnership between The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance and Austin Opera," said chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, Brant Pope. "This, along with similar affiliations with ZACH Theatre, the Long Center for the Performing Arts, and other organizations across Texas and the country reflects a commitment to opening our doors to the larger community, and fulfilling one of the most important missions of a great university."
Also involved in the production of A Masked Ball are professors Michelle Habeck (Lighting Design), Richard Isackes (Set Design), and recent alumna Hope Bennett (Costume Design, M.F.A. '14).
