PPP Fridays@2: Puerto Rican Artists Initiative with OUTsider Fest

SHARE

Join PPP's Fridays@2 speaker series for a conversation with members of the Puerto Rican Arts Initative.

The Performance as Public Practice Fridays@2 speaker series facilitates discussions about the creation and study of performance. PPP welcomes artists from within and beyond the Winship Drama Building, including current students, distinguished alumni and arts leaders from across the country, to share their research and methodology. Up next is a conversation with the Puerto Rican Arts Initiative, some of which will be presented at OUTsider Fest, funding by the Andrea W. Mellon Foundation. The University of Texas at Austin and Northwestern University.

Featured projects and artists include:

Barrioization

Carlo André and Rubén Rolando present Barrioization, an LGBTIQ+ platform that uses the arts, community urban planning and the design of transdisciplinary cultural experiences to articulate other ways —non-hegemonic, non-patriarchal— of rehabilitating and conserving the historical and environmental heritage based in Manati, Puerto Rico.

La Otra Laboratoria

Pó Rodil is a transdisciplinary artist working on the body's poetic and theatricalities. They direct La Otra Laboratoria, a collective and independent creative practice and training entity that generates inclusive spaces and conversations for the creation of artistic projects that celebrate and prioritize diversity within a community of dissident trans and queer Puerto Rican artists.

Templo de la Jayaera

Gisela Rosario Ramos aka Macha Colón presents El templo de la jayera, an outdoors pop-up temple to facilitate our collective "jayaera" (being in harmony with oneself and empowered by self-love) through an artistic presentation, contemplatoin and communion with nature.
