Faculty member Joel Valentín-Martínez's choreographic work "Dear Brother" will be presented as part of University of Wisconsin-Madison's Moonshine, an evening of performance celebrating Black History Month. Dancer Kevin Ormsby will perform Valentín-Martínez's latest work.

The VORTEX presents the world premiere of i see you. you're seen., written and performed by alumna Oktavea LaToi (B.A. 2017). This solo performance, also featuring video design by M.F.A. candidate Jackson Cobb, will be on stage February 25 through March 11, 2023.

M.F.A. candidate Allen Porterie received the inaugural Monica K. Roberts Graduate Award. Established by UT Libraries, this award is part of their Black Queer Studies Student Awards, recognizing outstanding scholarship in the field of Black Queer Studies.

Ashley Malafronte (M.A. 2021) has been awarded the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation Noël Coward Fellowship. As part of her fellowship, she'll work with director and faculty member KJ Sanchez on Arizona Theatre Company's production of Private Lives.

Playwriting faculty member Kirk Lynn discusses the performance of play as part of Two Guys on Your Head In-Person (a production from NPR Radio) on February 21, as part of the Texas Science Festival 2023.

M.F.A. candidate Emma Dickerson was selected for the 2023 Barbara Matera Award in Costume Making. This award recognizes her excellence and artistry as a costume maker and earns her a monetary prize and registration for the USITT Conference & Stage Expo. 

Kimber Lee (M.F.A. 2011) is among ten finalists for the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for her play saturday. Lee's play was selected from nearly 200 applicants worldwide for the international prize, which centers the work of women+ playwrights.
