B.F.A. in Acting Candidate

Why did you choose UT Austin for your education?

The department's passion for interdisciplinary education and learning, while allowing for a diverse set of experiences and backgrounds from a large university in an urban setting. Also, the ability to diversify my own understanding and learning in multiple fields due to the countless reputable education programs throughout the university.

What inspires you?

A community that nourishes and encourages education and creativity as mutually vital - the continual understanding that truly beautiful art can come from anywhere, and through working people from different backgrounds and with different skill sets, the limit of that art is immeasurable.

What is my favorite place to study?

Any place that serves very dark coffee.

Tell us about a favorite experience in class, on stage or behind the scenes at UT.

On the first day of rehearsal for the UTNT (UT New Theatre) play, Bleecker 381, our director, Jess Hutchinson, had everyone in the small cast of less than ten create points on a map of all the places we were born and had been, and seeing a physical representation of different backgrounds in just that few of people made me realize how small my own understanding was and made me never want to stop broadening my own mind and empathy through the thoughts, experiences and wisdom of others.

What do you love most about being part of the UT Theatre Dance family?

The fact that you're as big, as talented, and as successful as you fight to be. Only through being a true member of the community will you take advantage of the broad base of knowledge and creativity the department has to offer.

About Tucker

I am from Plano, Texas. I came to The University of Texas initially intending to apply to the School of Engineering, but when I came to the campus I fell in love with the Department of Theatre and Dance and its faculty. They instilled a confidence and passion in me that had been lacking until witnessing the work and community in this program.
