Daniel Ruiz Bustos is a proud Mexican scenic designer and M.F.A. in Theatre candidate with a specialization in live design and production at The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance. With over a decade of experience spanning film, interactive media, drama, dance and music, Ruiz Bustos' interdisciplinary approach to design has garnered acclaim for its innovation and creativity.
His recent works include the visually captivating productions of Very Blue Light (UTNT (UT New Theatre), 2023) and the dynamic Fall for Dance series, featuring Witchcraft, Failures in Holding the Multiple and Pop Refuge (Texas Theatre and Dance, 2022). Noteworthy among his achievements is his design for Choreomaniac 1518 (UTNT (UT New Theatre), 2024), which explores the intersection of movement and space, showcasing Ruiz Bustos’ fascination with dance and experimental performance.
Ruiz Bustos' academic pursuits extend to his thesis project focused on Live Scenography—a groundbreaking concept that integrates scenic design with bodily movement to redefine the theatrical experience. His creative endeavors also include film, with his work Eva/Ana being showcased at the Sound of Silent Film Festival in Chicago in 2016.
He holds a Postgraduate specialization in Scenic Design from CENTRO and a B.E. in Computer Science and Technology with a concentration in Filmmaking from Tecnológico de Monterrey. His diverse background and commitment to artistic innovation reflect his dedication to the craft of scenic design.
