
Emma Catherine Watkins is a M.F.A. in Theatre candidate with a specialization in playwriting at The University of Texas at Austin. Her plays have been developed with support from PlayPenn, McCarter Theatre Center's LAB, Chapter Arts Centre (United Kingdom), Theatre Intime, Princeton Lewis Center for the Arts and Cardiff University (United Kingdom). She is a recipient of a Fulbright Award and the co-creator of Humbug Theatre Co., an educational theatre program founded to offer joyful, inclusive theatre-making opportunities for young people during the pandemic. Her writing is fed by her scholarship, which ranges from articles on feminist music theatre pedagogy to environmentalist performance adaptations of Welsh myth. As a dramaturg and new play development assistant, Watkins has supported productions of Gloria: A Life, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Goodnight Nobody (McCarter Theatre Center). Watkins holds an A.B. from Princeton University in English, Theatre, and Environmental Studies and a M.A. in Welsh and Celtic Studies from Cardiff University.
