B.F.A. in Theatre Education

UTeach Theatre, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Education degree plan, is a nationally recognized, pre-professional program for students interested in teaching theatre at the high school, middle school or elementary school level.

Outstanding faculty offer students a comprehensive curriculum in theatre, drama, technical theatre and educational methods combined with in-depth field and student teaching experiences.

The B.F.A. in Theatre Education degree plan leads to K-12 theatre teacher certification. Students wishing to study theatre who do not plan to seek teaching certification should apply to the B.A. in Theatre and Dance.

There are more than 20 performance opportunities each year for students majoring in theatre. Many productions are student-produced, providing opportunities to develop new skills as directors, writers, production managers, designers and dramaturgs.

Freshman Applicants

1. SUBMIT THE COMMON APP APPLICATION

Available: August 1, 2024
Deadline: December 1, 2024

All applicants must submit a freshman university application via Common App. This university application will include:

• Application

• Essay
• Short answers
• Transcript(s)
• Other required optional materials, if applicable
• Scholarship interest form

2. SUBMIT THEATRE AND DANCE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Available: September 1, 2024
Deadline: December 11, 2024

All applicants will submit a video introduction and teaching demo, two-three minutes in length. Select applicants may be invited to attend an in-person or virtual interview.

• The personal introduction should begin with your name, hometown and a fun fact about yourself. Applicants will then teach a brief lesson about something fun and easy. For example, you could teach us how to make a PB&J, or teach about why dogs are better than cats.

Applicants will also be asked to upload a headshot.

• NOTE: The headshot does not have to be a professional headshot. It can be a clear image taken on your mobile device.

Applicants will also be required to respond to several short written prompts.

Transfer Applicants

For External Transfer Applicants
