Beloved alumna Rebecca Ashley Walach passed away February 19, 2019. A 2015 B.A. in Theatre and Dance graduate, Walach was a passionate actor and artist involved in theatre companies in both Austin and California. A talented artist and fierce friend, her light and spirit will be greatly missed.

Associate Professor KJ Sanchez's recent production of Cincinnati King at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, an exploration of the history of King Records, is featured on CET Public Television's The Art Show. 

Under the artistic direction of Andrea Beckham and Erica Gionfriddo, Dance Repertory Theatre returns to the stage in Fortitude, a concert celebrating the enduring spirit of dance and the strength of those called to it as a field. Fortitude features work by renowned guest artists, faculty and students as well as the annual presentation of the Haruka Weiser Memorial Commission.

This fall, the Department of Theatre and Dance welcomes McArthur fellows Annie Baker and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins to the playwriting faculty in the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin.

The 2019 LTC TYA Sin Fronteras Festival comes to the Winship Drama Building and the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center for three days of performances, plenaries and breakout sessions. Plenty to experience across the city in this, the first festival devoted to Latinx and Latin American theatre for young audiences.
