Corey Allen Receives Department of Theatre and Dance Teaching Excellence Award

Assistant professor of acting Corey Allen has been recognized as the recipient of the 2023-2024 Department of Theatre and Dance Teaching Excellence Award, a prestigious teaching accolade that celebrates his contributions to student success within the department. This award is granted to educators within the Department of Theatre and Dance who go above and beyond in their work both in and out of the classroom. 

Corey Allen is a multi-dimensional artist and performer, whose work has appeared onscreen and on stages across the U.S. Recent TV credits include: Mindhunter, Madame Secretary, Bull, Happy! and The Breaks. Film work includes Proximity, Lost in the City and Root for the Villain. Regionally, he recently appeared at Shakespeare Theatre Company (Washington D.C.), Pioneer Theatre Company, Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Huntington Theatre Company and the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. His voice-over work can be found on dozens of audiobooks, several documentaries and various sound recordings. In addition, Allen has directed a number of works including Sonnets for an Old Century (Texas Theatre and Dance, 2021) and Macbeth (Illinois Shakespeare Festival, 2024). He holds an M.F.A. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. 

Allen joined the Department of Theatre and Dance in the spring of 2020, where he teaches in the acting area. His courses include Acting, Character Analysis & Scene Study, Voice Lab and Voice Over & Narration. He also serves as a mentor and collaborator during Texas Theatre and Dance production seasons and has served on the Executive Committee for the 2023 and upcoming 2025 Cohen New Works Festivals as a faculty producer.
