Matthew Smith is an Austin-based costume designer and maker. Smith’s costume designs are featured at Will Shuster’s The Burning of Zozobra in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a one-night annual event that attracts over 60,000 people.

Smith’s costume work spans across the United States – from Off-Broadway to regional theatres, opera and dance companies such as 59E59, Houston Ballet, Baltimore Center Stage, Everyman Theatre and Santa Fe Opera. Most recently, he has designed at Repertory Stage, Johns Hopkins University and Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. Smith is currently a Master’s of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) candidate in Theatre with a specialization in live design and production at The University of Texas at Austin. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Theatre Design/Tech from Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD).
