Sara Skolnick is an Ecuadorian-Jewish DJ, death doula, and cultural activist. She is a first-year Ph.D. in Theatre candidate with a specialization in Performance as Public Practice at The University of Texas at Austin. Skolnick's practice is grounded in ancestral veneration, bone-deep listening, and presence with seen and unseen worlds. Her research investigates the intersections of queer dissonant sound aesthetics and death ritual & ceremony in Ecuador as resistance technologies for disrupting neoliberalism. As a performer, Skolnick's rowdy, deeply-researched DJ sets reflect back nightlife's power as a site of joy and resistance, with past highlights including Lincoln Center, Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, MoMA PS1, Fania Records' 60th Anniversary, and Rolling Stone's Future of Music. Skolnick holds a M.A. in Arts Politics from New York University and a B.A. in Political Science from Boston University.
