Visiting Guest Lecturer, Acting
Bio
Rob Hahn is a Visiting Guest Lecturer in Acting and Voice at The University of Texas at Austin, where he began his training. A voice, speech and dialect specialist with a M.F.A. in Acting, he spent nearly 20 years on the faculty of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. There he taught acting, voice and speech, dialects and breathwork, directed more than 30 productions and dialect-coached more than 250 others. As the founder of Hollywood Dialect Coach, Hahn has coached on set for Peacock's The Good Daughter and Apple TV's For All Mankind and has worked with Spotify on voice-over projects. He is one of only three practitioners in the United States certified at Level 2 in MDH Breathing Coordination. He brings that work to actors, singers, Olympic athletes and people living with vocal or respiratory conditions. His teaching begins with care before concepts. He sees the work not as something done to or for a student, but with one: a shared discovery. He is a member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA).
What do you enjoy most about being part of the UT Theatre and Dance community?
The hunger. These students really want to work, and the faculty meet them with generosity and good humor. I began my own training here, so I don't take a single day of it for granted.
What is your favorite thing about Austin?
Breakfast tacos. After two decades in LA, I'd forgotten a taco could be a morning food. Austin has kindly reminded me.
