Alumni Earn 2009 Tony Award Nominations

The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance is proud to recognize three graduates for their recent success on Broadway earning three 2009 Tony Award Nominations and featured roles in nominated pieces.

Kevin Adams (B.F.A. '84) received two nominations for "Best Lighting Design of a Musical" for his work on Hair and Next to Normal. Adams won the Tony for Best Lighting Design of a Musical" in 2007 for his work on Spring Awakening. He took home his second career Tony Award in 2008 for "Best Lighting Design of Play" for his design of The 39 Steps.

Marcia Gay Harden (B.A. '80) is nominated for "Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play" for her role as "Veronica" in Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage. Harden's Broadway debut as "Harper" in Tony Kushner's, Angels in America, garnered two Tony Award nominations in 1993.

Charlie Pollock (B.F.A. '95) appears in 9 to 5: The Musical, based on the Dolly Parton film and nominated for a total of four awards.

The 2009 Tony Awards show airs Sunday, June 7th.
