South by Southwest (SXSW) is one of Austin's biggest events of the year, bringing filmmakers, musicians and creatives from around the world to the city. This year, a number of alumni and current UT Theatre and Dance students are collaborating on SXSW events, both behind the scenes and on stage in official and unofficial showcases.

Ph.D. candidate Emily Green and alumni Aída Hernandez-Reyes (B.F.A. 2023), Errin Delperdang (B.F.A. 2004) and Love Muwwakkil (M.F.A. 2023) served as collaborators on the Long Center's site-specific soundwalk Eclipsing. This free event features additional contributions and research consultation by Emi Aguilar (M.F.A. 2015). Created by artistic duo POINT A, Eclipsing draws inspiration from the city of Austin and the "magically synchronous" qualities of a total eclipse. This public artwork is being presented as part of SXSW XR on March 9-12, 2024.

Current student Molly Masson is performing at multiple unofficial SXSW concert venues with her band Farmer's Wife. The "dream rock quintet" was highlighted in Austin Monthly's 10 Artists Everyone Will be Talking About at SXSW 2024. Earlier this year, Farmer's Wife was voted Best New Act in The Austin Chronicle's annual Austin Music Awards.

Amidst this year's film screenings, alum Camille Wiltz (B.F.A. 2023) can be seen performing in the world premiere screening of Long Time Sun. Wiltz is among the dance ensemble in this four-part documentary, which chronicles "the rise of Kundalini Yoga and the 3HO Sikh Dharma community."

Additionally, Francesca Ghizzoni (B.F.A. 2019) returns to SXSW as a production manager for this year's festival. Jazmyn Castillo (B.A. 2019) also works behind the scenes as a project coordinator. Current students Kat Clark, Madeleine Berckley, Tori Salazar and Clarissa Garcia and alum Thomas Hardey (B.A. 2023) join the SXSW team as well, helping keep the festival running as stage managers at individual venues.
