Professor of Playwriting Award-Winning Play at ZACH Theatre: Steven Dietz's "Fiction" take the stage February 10th

The talents of the University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance faculty and alumni are once again being showcased at Austin's ZACH Theatre.

The talents of the University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance faculty and alumni are once again being showcased at Austin's ZACH Theatre. Steven Dietz's (Professor of Playwriting and Screenwriting) play, Fiction, comes to the Whisenhunt Stage February 10 - April 10. The winner of the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays Award, Fiction, is a comedic drama about two married writers whose very profession places them on edge of fact and fiction.

Dietz is one of the most produced playwrights in America, recently placing eighth on the list of the Top Ten Most Produced Playwrights in America. Current and upcoming productions of Dietz's work include: Jackie and Me (Chicago Children's Theatre and Seattle Children's Theatre); Yankee Tavern (Tennessee Repertory Theatre and Stages Repertory Theatre); Becky's New Car (Baynan Theater Company and Theatre Aspen, who's cast includes Broadway's Sandy Duncan); and Go, Dog, Go!, adapted by Dietz and Allison Gregory (Seattle Children's Theatre).

ZACH Theatre's production of Fiction is directed by Charles Otte (Associate Professor of Theatre Technology). Otte's professional credits include Monty Python Productions, A&E Television, HDTV, the Sundance Institute, Roger Corman Films, BRC Imagination Arts, ShoConcepts, Lincoln Center, NASCAR, the Alliance Theatre, Martha Graham Dance Company and the Guthrie Theatre. He is currently developing a program in Integrated Media with Live Performance at the University of Texas at Austin.

Fiction also features costume design by Barbara Pope (Senior Lecturer in Costume Design), who's work has been seen at the Asolo Theatre Company (LORT), Florida Studio Theatre, American State, Tennessee Repertory Theatre, Illinois Shakespeare Festival and other regional and university theatres. Sydney Andrews (MFA Acting, 2010) plays the role of Abby Drake. Andrews recent performances at ZACH Theatre include Becky's New Car, Doubt, and Love, Janis.
