UTeach Dance integrates advanced pedagogy in dance, leading to teacher certification with the professional artistic training and performance opportunities of the B.F.A. in Dance. All applicants interested in UTeach Dance must first apply to the B.F.A. in Dance.

UTeach Dance integrates advanced pedagogy in dance, leading to teacher certification with the professional artistic training and performance opportunities of the B.F.A. in Dance.

Students train in daily technique classes in ballet and contemporary dance forms, while also enjoying a curriculum that consists of practical and theoretical studies in performance, choreography and related dance studies. Students perform and participate regularly in the department’s award-winning dance company, Dance Repertory Theatre.

The professional development sequence leading to Texas state teacher certification for Dance grades 6-12 is a total of twenty-four (24) semester hours and incorporates extensive field experiences, including a semester of internship and a semester of student teaching. Our dance certification program is grounded in holistic and research-based best practices in teaching dance that facilitate skill development, dance-making and literacy as well as history and legacy. Students interested in UTeach Dance are invited to apply to the certification program during their first and second year of study as a B.F.A. in Dance major at The University of Texas at Austin.

The UTeach Dance degree plan leads to Texas dance teacher certification. Students wishing to study dance who are interested in becoming teaching artists, but who do not plan to seek teaching certification should apply to the B.A. in Theatre and Dance or can pursue coursework within the B.F.A. in Dance program.

Students interested in UTeach Dance (B.F.A. in Dance with teacher certification) must apply to the B.F.A. in Dance program as an incoming student. Admitted students are invited to apply to the certification program during their second year of study at the university.
