Register to Audition

An audition is required for admission to this program. Register for your audition by completing the Theatre and Dance Application.

Applicants must audition to be considered for the B.F.A. in Dance.
Please note that some audition dates precede application deadlines.

How can I audition?

Auditions are available on campus or online. Applicants who audition online may be asked to visit The University of Texas at Austin to attend class with our faculty before a final admissions decision will be made.

What takes place at a typical on-campus dance audition? 

On-campus auditions last from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and consist of a ballet class, a contemporary class, a movement improvisation exercise, interviews with our faculty, tours, Q&As and a demonstration from current students. Applicants will receive detailed instructions on how to prepare after registering for their audition. All participants will be asked to provide an artistic resume and photo. 

How do I register to audition? 

Submit the Department of Theatre and Dance application to schedule your audition. Fall 2017 Department Applications will be available August 1, 2016.

How do I submit an online audition? 

Online auditions are submitted through Acceptd.

Online audition deadlines: Freshmen (December 1), Transfer (March 1).

Freshmen Applicants

All applicants must submit their ApplyTexas application by December 1. The Department will only consider applicants who list our majors as a "first choice." Applicants may check the status of their application and update their major-choices through their MyStatus page.

External Transfer Applicants

The B.F.A. in Dance is a four-year sequence of training. We cannot predict how the credits you may have pursued at another institution in dance will transfer into our training sequence. Once admitted, transfer students will meet with an advisor during orientation to determine their timeline-to-degree. All transfer students should expect to invest at least two to three full years of study in our Department to complete a B.F.A. in Dance. 

All applicants must submit their ApplyTexas application by March 1. The Department will only consider applicants who list our majors as a "first choice". Applicants may check the status of their application and update their selections through their MyStatus page.

External Transfer Application

Change of Major Applicants (Internal Transfer)

All applicants must submit a change of major application by March 1. Please note that candidates who plan to audition must attend one of the audition dates listed above. There are no separate audition dates for transfer applicants. Online auditions will be received through Acceptd until March 1.
