Robert Ramirez joined the College of Fine Arts in 2014 as the Head of the Acting Program in the Department of Theatre and Dance, where he now serves as Interim Chair. Prior to his appointment, Ramirez was on the faculties of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Marymount Manhattan College and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. He completed his conservatory training at the Los Angeles Theatre Academy before going on to complete his Master of Fine Arts at the prestigious University of Delaware Professional Theatre Training Program. Ramirez has acted on the stages of Shakespeare theaters across the United States, including the Tony Award winning Utah Shakespeare Festival and the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park in New York City. He is a renowned Vocal Coach who has collaborated on productions at American Players Theater, The Illinois Shakespeare Festival, Cleveland Playhouse, the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He has directed productions and staged readings for Austin Shakespeare, American Players Theatre and Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre and has been an acclaimed narrator of audiobooks for over 20 years, receiving numerous Golden Earphones Awards from Audiophile magazine. Ramirez is a member of Actors Equity Association, the Voice and Speech Trainers Association, and was recently elected to the National Theatre Conference. He is the current Vice President of the University Resident Theater Association, having previously sat on their board of directors.
