Alex J. Gendal is a M.F.A. in Design and Technology candidate with a focus in integrated media for live performance. He is also a lighting designer and projection designer, and has had a passion for technical theatre since early high school. He graduated from the Purchase College Conservatory of Theatre Arts with a B.F.A. in theatre design/technology with a lighting design concentration. His design experience covers a range of contemporary and Middle Eastern dance, musicals and dramas. Gendal’s most recent employment was at Phillips Exeter Academy as an assistant stagecraft teacher, as well as the lighting, sound and projection designer for all of the shows produced. Several of his design credits include The Laramie Project, Into The Woods, Not On This Night, Blood Wedding, Theater Decomposed, Marat/Sade and The Canterbury Tales. Outside of theatre, Gendal is also a field photographer who enjoys exploring urban ruins, experimenting with different perspectives and using photography to provoke insight on new ways to view and experience the world.
