Cover of Theatre Research International

Dr. Charlotte Canning is new senior editor of the prestigious journal Theatre Research International (TRI). Published three times a year, TRI offers articles on theatre practices in their social, cultural, and historical contexts, their relationship to other media of representation, and to other fields of inquiry. The journal seeks to reflect the evolving diversity of critical idioms prevalent in the scholarship of differing world contexts.

Head of the Department of Theatre and Dance’s Performance as Public Practice program, Canning has served as the book review editor for Theatre Journal. Her book The Most American Thing in America: Circuit Chautauqua as Performance (Iowa, 2005) won the 2006 Barnard Hewitt Award for Outstanding Research in Theatre History.
