dancers and musician on stage

How do I apply and audition?

The application deadline for freshman admission is December 1 and transfer admission is March 1. Detailed step-by-step instructions are available here.

How many students do you accept into the program?

We target an incoming class of 20 to 25 B.F.A. dancers and four to five B.A. dancers, admitting approximately 30 applicants to achieve that goal. You will automatically be considered for the B.A. in Theatre and Dance if you audition for admission to the B.F.A in Dance.

What production opportunities will I have as a student?

The department produces up to three dance concerts in the main stage season annually with additional performances by the student dance company, Dance Action, each semester. Additionally, the Cohen New Works Festival brings more than 30 original works by students to life every other spring.

What opportunities will I have to choreograph work?

Incoming students are encouraged to join Dance Action, the student dance company, where opportunities to choreograph are available every semester through their concerts. The biennial event, the Cohen New Works Festival, also provides many opportunities.

Where are recent dance graduates working?

Our graduates are working with many established and emerging choreographers, including Diavolo, Ririe-Woodbury, Aerial Dance Chicago, Alex Ketley/The Foundry, Paloma McGregor and many more. Others have begun their own choreographic careers in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles. They have also received Fulbrights to travel abroad and many go on to be admitted to prestigious graduate programs.
