Rebecca Switzer graduated from Arizona State with a B.F.A. in Ceramics in 1976 and from the University of Arizona M.F.A. in Costume Design and Theater Technology in 1987. Since graduation, she has worked in regional theater props shops across the country including the Baltimore Center Stage, Utah Shakespeare Festival and La Jolia Playhouse. She has served as prop master for Tacoma Actors Guild for a number of years and numerous small opera and theater companies across the United States.
Switzer has been an academic prop master since 1999. Before coming to Texas Performing Arts at The University of Texas at Austin in 2005, she was at the Krannert Center for Performing Arts at the University of Illinois, as well as the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland. She has had the honor and privilege of working with both Carey Wong and Bill Forrester over a number of years. She remembers the first job that she worked on in theater: she spray painted shoes yellow for "The Visit" and was immediately hooked on technical theater as a vocation. Her first summer stock was at The Spoileto Festival, an amazing experience that instilled the love of Opera in her forever.
