Non-Tenure Track Position in Technical Direction and Theatre

The Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas at Austin is accepting applications for a nine-month, non-tenure track position as Instructor of Technical Theatre and Technical Director beginning on or before 1/16/14. Applicants will preferably have a terminal degree (MFA in Theatrical Design or Technology) or a Bachelor’s degree plus commensurate professional experience. The successful candidate will have experience with lighting, sound, and projection as well as one or more of the following: scenery construction, rigging systems, shop supervision, project management, budget preparation, and mechanized/automated scenery.
This position will instruct and oversee students in technical production and assist with all technical elements for the Department’s productions and events. Working with Texas Performing Arts, this position will coordinate all phases of theatrical scenic production, oversee purchasing and cost estimates, create technical drawings, plan and supervise load-ins and strikes, and maintain scene shop safety.
