Professor Katie Dawson and collaborator Daniel A. Kelin II have been awarded the American Alliance for Theatre and Education’s (AATE) 2015 Distinguished Book Award for The Reflexive Teaching Artist: Collected Wisdom from the Drama/Theatre Field. Published in 2014 (Intellect, University of Chicago Press), The Reflexive Teaching Artist raises fundamental questions about the complex functions of the teaching artist in school, community and professional theater settings. Through questions, guided reflection activities, collected wisdom from the field, and an introductory action-research model, Dawson, Kelin and their contributors closely examine the practice of teaching in, through, and about drama and theatre.

Dawson and Kelin will be honored at AATE’s annual conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, August 5-9, 2015. Founded in 1936, AATE is among the most recognized arts education organizations. AATE connects and inspires a growing collective of theatre artists, educators, and scholars committed to transforming young people and communities through the theatre arts. Through its membership, AATE serves more than one million students across the globe.
