The exhibit celebrates the work of 38 emerging artists. In conjunction with the exhibition, there will be a public lecture by alumnus and Tony award-winning designer Kevin Adams.

The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance presents the annual Theatrical Design and Technology Showcase May 2 - 7, a retrospective exhibition of student work in costume, lighting, sound, scenic design, costume technology, stage management and theatrical design. The exhibit celebrates the work of 38 emerging artists, including a 20-foot Rube Goldberg machine, three-dimensional modeling techniques and millinery work. Guests are invited to experience the theatre from the other side of the curtain and learn about the design and technology process.

In conjunction with the showcase, the Department of Theatre and Dance is hosting a public lecture by alumnus and Tony award-winning designer Kevin Adams on May 3.

Kevin Adams is on the leading edge of the post-incandescent age on Broadway. His work for Spring Awakening -- brilliant white light for the 19th-century play's scenes and saturated color from what he calls “electric objects” for the songs -- won him a Tony in 2007. He picked up a second Tony in 2008 for The 39 Steps and a third in 2010 for his lighting of the Green Day musical American Idiot. Adams holds a B.F.A. in Theatrical Design from The University of Texas at Austin. He is serving as a guest artist respondent to the student work in this year's Theatrical Design and Technology Showcase.

Additional respondents include: Thomas Walsh (president of the Art Directors Guild and Chairman of the Art Directors Film Society), Robert Faires (actor, director, arts editor), Susan Branch Towne (costume designer), Kevin Rigdon (associate director for Houston's Alley Theatre), Caylah Eddleblute (production designer, art director, property master for Troublemaker Studios), Steve Joyner (production designer, art director, property master for Troublemaker Studios), Nina Proctor (costume designer and costume supervisor for Troublemaker Studios), and Michael B. Raiford (scenic and costume designer).
