Jess Shoemaker is a director and educator who believes in the power of storytelling to foster empathy and connection. She is a fan of strong female protagonists, humor and poetry.
Originally from Iowa, Shoemaker graduated from Webster University in 2010 with a B.F.A. in Acting but has worn many hats over the last several years, freelancing as a director, text coach, actor and playwright. In Chicago, she spent three years working for the diversity and inclusion firm, Nextions, as a qualitative research associate. She is currently the co-program director for the GRSF Apprentice Program and co-founder of (re)discover theatre in Chicago, IL. Her plays, Jason & (Medea) and 50 Shades of Shakespeare were both nominated for encore performances and best ensemble at the Los Angeles Fringe Festival.
